Doctor's surgery extension, Slough
Extension and refurbishment of The Village Medical Centre, a busy GP surgery in Cippenham on the outskirts of Slough.
This surgery was one of two run by the same medical practice. In 2017, they took the decision to close the smaller surgery because it was no longer fit for purpose and extend their main surgery in the suburbs of Slough, Berkshire.
The main surgery was built in the late 1990s in the heyday of medical rebuilding, where budgets were generous and architectural endeavour was high. It’s architectural language was strong.
We began working with the practice management team and medical staff In 2018 on designs for two extensions to the surgery building. One is a single-storey providing an additional four consulting rooms around a private, calm garden area. The other is a two-storey extension containing a new pharmacy.
The project was delayed by Covid and subsequently by the volatility in materials and build costs.
The end result
Following a successful planning application and detailed design development, works started on site in 2022 and completed early 2023.
The completed scheme references very strong architectural detailing and design of the original building. Particular attention was taken to form, including roof detailing of pitches and overhangs and to the choice of brickwork.
We think the design of the extensions successfully blend into the original, complimenting it, not competing with it.
The Oxford Blue pub was originally two game keepers cottages that became a cosy but eventually run down local in Windsor. The pub was bought by a group of investors and we were brought in to help transform it into a contemporary gastro pub with the long-term aim of achieving a Michelin star.
We worked closely with the new investors and their experienced hospitality management team to ensure the building was extended and refurbished to the highest standards, including a half million pound commercial kitchen.
