Our First Part 1 - Architectural Assistant
Congratulations to Sam on his Graduation, with a First Class Degree in Architecture

As with anything, when you’re first starting out, you generally don’t know much and don’t have much experience. Relatively speaking, even after your degree, you have a lot more design experience but no office or practical experience. At this point you’re a “Part 1 - Architectural Assistant.” You may find it difficult to get a job in a smaller practice, as with no career track record, it can be a risk that can have a big positive or negative impact.
Until 17th March 2021, Artichoke had not taken that plunge – and then we did.
Sam approached us after having spent months trying to find a practice that would give him a chance. We hadn’t actually been considering it but his approach was so positive and enthusiastic that after a chat, we agreed to a trial period.
The rest (as they say) is history. We’re very grateful that we took the plunge, Sam has been nothing short of spectacular, bringing freshness, energy, curiosity to the practice and hopefully getting as much as he gives. Especially at this stage, the practice has a lot of responsibility to ensure they play a part in a Part 1’s continuing architectural education & experience.
We’re so proud to congratulate Sam on his Graduation from Oxford Brookes School of Architecture, with a First Class Degree in Architecture – WELL DONE SAM!
Sadly, Sam will be leaving us in August to continue with the next part of his education and will be off to Manchester University for his Masters Degree.
Having taken the plunge, we’re already looking for Sam 2.0!
