When New Meets Really Old - Contemporary Room for 17th Century Farmhouse
This is one of our favourite kind of projects, where really new meets really old. One thing is for sure on all projects like this, finesse and attention to detail are absolutely critical.
Here we were approached by a fantastic client with a 17th & 18th Century Grade II Listed Farmhouse in the Laleham Conservation area. They wanted to create more space so we designed a very sleek, simple, contemporary room to the rear, as well as a comprehensive refurbishment of the property. It was originally home to the Bingham Family – Earls of Lucan, built for the Bailiff of the estate, so has an incredible amount of history and we’ve been privileged to continue the architectural story.
What particularly attracts us to this kind of project, is not only the ability to really add to history by continuing the story (not copying it) but the way that the very clean lines of engineered materials contrast so beautifully against the aged and wonky original, which oozes character.
